MUA Tanzania, previously known as Phoenix of Tanzania, has inherited its rich history from one of the oldest insurance companies in East Africa - Phoenix Assurance Company Ltd. The company’s roots can be traced back to 1781, with the name “Phoenix” being adopted in 1812. The company has been operating in Tanzania since 1999 and has been part of MUA since 2014.

MUA Tanzania is rated AA+ by Global Credit Rating (GCR). The company also has the highest net worth in the market, ensuring we can meet our obligations and pay our customers’ claims.

Our extensive branch network across Tanzania covers Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Iringa, Mwanza, Dodoma, Kahama, Kigoma, Morogoro, Mbeya and Makambako.

MUA Tanzania has a solid Reinsurance Treaty Program, led by Swiss Re.  Our other reinsurance partners include GIC Re, Africa Re, PTA Re, Continental Re and Score Africa, giving us the capacity to offer a wide range of specialised insurance solutions to individual and corporate clients.

Combining our reinsurance capacity and our regional experience, we can handle major and complex projects. Most recently, we have been chosen to lead the Tanzania Energy Co-insurance Consortium.
